Joint MSW Program Application Instructions

Thank you for your interest in Texas Woman’s University and the University of North Texas Joint MSW (JMSW) Program.

JMSW Admissions Application Deadline for 2018-19 is Tuesday, February 13, 2018.

Applications for both Generalist and Advanced Standing Programs will be accepted from January 16 through February 13, 2018.

INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS:
 For applicants who do not have a Bachelor’s of Social Work (BSW) Degree from a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program), the program requires 60 credit hours.

Eligibility

  • Earned baccalaureate degree from a college/university accredited by a recognized regional accrediting association.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in last 60 credit hours of the baccalaureate degree
  • No Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is required
  • International applicants must meet TOEFL International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirements for TWU and UNT (79 internet/550 Paper/213 computer)

  • The JMSW program will determine whether or not your application meets the basic admission requirements through a preliminary admission screening, and will notify you via email about the decision. If you meet the requirements for the program application, then the program will send information about how to complete the formal application for admission through Apply Texas. Meeting the preliminary admission requirements does not necessarily guarantee acceptance. 
  • The Apply Texas application will include an application fee. There is no fee for the preliminary admission screening.   ​

REQUIRED MATERIALS:
All applications are required to submit the following in the program application to be considered to admission.

  • A recent resume which reflects your education, and volunteer or professional experiences as applicable
  • Personal essay – applicants must address all components of the essay requirements.  The essay will be assessed based on content, grammar and writing skills.
  • Three letters of recommendation from professors or professionals who are familiar with your work. Applicants must include all three letters of recommendation with their completed application and essays. These letters must be in individual envelops with the recommenders signature across the sealed flap. Download the Letter of Recommendation Form here. The application will automatically download to your computer. You will need Adobe Acrobat to complete the application. If you don’t have Acrobat, you may download the most current version of the Adobe Reader at this website:  https://get.adobe.com/reader/
  • If an applicant has been or is currently enrolled in another MSW program an additional letter of recommendation from the Chair or MSW program director is required.
  • Applicants must submit one unofficial transcript during the preliminary screening.   If selected for progression to the formal application process, an official transcript will be required.
  • Transfer credits are limited to no more than 12 semester credit hours and are subject to JMSW approval. Please note that credit acceptance is not guaranteed, once admitted to the program, students will formally submit course syllabi and be notified of the outcome in writing. The JMSW program does not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience.
  • An interview may be required in some circumstances to obtain additional information. ​

Application materials will not be returned to the applicant.
